Rolf presents an interesting playing philosophy for the pot limit Omaha game. I especially liked the way he discussed the changes he had to make in his playing style as his competition adjusted to his game. His style takes more patience than many players possess but will constantly show a profit if followed. It has helped my game a lot.

I bought this to learn and improve my Omaha game for possible entry into tournaments. This book relates a personal approach which, although interesting and with a few applicable hints, generally is not a “how-to” presentation.

Finally a non-idiot book for pot limit 0maha. Rolf claims to “have held nothing back” in his book, and I believe him. Slotboom details his “small-stack” strategy which mathematically served him to become one of his games most frequent winners. He also details a large-stack strategy. His book is pretty comprehensive, he covers starting hands, but he goes into more detail–detailing on how he would play them on early and also on the button. This book also includes “classic” Slotboom articles. Slotboom’s writing style is fun. He’s a deep thinker but you’ll also see him in a deep strategy section refer to an opponent as “tight-a**”!

If you are looking for means of learning to play Omaha High Limit game this book will provide you with the basics. If you have already known how to play or have some experience in any other type of poker game, such as, Hold’em, Bob Ciaffone’s Book will disappoint you. It teaches to use a point count system for Limit type of poker. The author talks about game selection and you should play against players who are less proficient than you. However, it is a very basic poker manual and it teaches only the fundamentals of Omaha, reading the board and do not get sucked in draws unless you are drawing to the nuts.

“High Omaha poker” was written in fairly easy to read way. This book is a quite good explanation of PLO and I recommend it to everyone who is looking for a worthwhile book on PLO.

There is not much technical writing in Ciafone’s work so it was nice to read.

If you are going to play Pot-Limit Omaha Poker (PLO), then this is probably the best book to start learning with. It covers starting hands, various ways of playing in different situations and so forth.

If you have an experience in holdem and know the rules of high Omaha, you’ll find this book is really an introduction. After getting acquainted with “about the author”, “history of omaha” and the other space-filler pages, only about 90 pages remain… I wish I’d spend time reading on-line and then throw the price on a poker site where I can practice. I’d have learnt more in this way.

Bob Ciaffone’s classic must be read by every player who is serious about learning to play Omaha in an expert way. If the book seems a bit light at first glance, just pay attention that it was originally written over two decades ago, and its position among poker books is secure. I think the strength of the content will also surprise you from time to time, as even seemingly mundane topics such as “Community Card Poker” and “Betting and Blind Structure” have surprising value.

Frankly speaking, everything the man writes is deserving attention. And coming from hold’em, it was the book that greatly changed the way I thought about Omaha and got me on the right track. For those familiar with my play, I should note that it was Bob’s original section on the straight draws that I built upon.

For newcomers in Omaha, Bob Ciaffone’s Omaha Poker is a perfect guide to start from.

Bob Ciaffone has brought some happiness to his readers. He presented a short-spoken and penetrating into the depth of winning Omaha game guide for newbie. Like his earlier books it is composed of short essays dedicated to main principles of thinking like a professional player, and estimates about solid poker player’s deeds in playing a hand. This book teaches how to analyze specific starting hands and specific flops. It is especially helpful for those who want to play pot-limit Omaha High. Other types of Omaha are not so detailed described, but also can gain attention of readers. As with most distinguished poker books, the more experience you’ll gain, the more useful lessons you’ll receive from this text.

Rather passable book. It gives sufficiently full introduction to Omaha for the beginners and for those who have some knowledge in the field of other poker games. It is fascinating and contain a lot of useful information. It’s up to date and its structure is very convenient for reader. If you want to learn the game – this book is especially for you!
